READING SERVICES
Reading tutoring consists of a structured lesson with a consistent routine. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory intervention, and I use the curriculum from the Institute of Multi-sensory Learning. For Phonological Awareness I utilize curriculum from David Kilpatrick During our session I focus on the five pillars of reading:
1. Phonological Awareness
2. Phonics
3. Fluency
4. Vocabulary
5. Reading Comprehension
We also work on generalizing our reading skills by not only reading words in isolation, but by also reading words in a connected text. I use student interests to keep them motivated and interested in learning.
Dyslexia
In a dyslexic brain, the neural pathways used for reading behave in a different way. It's like the pathways don't have direct route which is why reading and writing take longer. While dyslexia cannot be cured, we can teach the brain new more direct pathways. The multi sensory approach is the most effective way of doing that.
The Multi-Sensory Approach

The Sea Of Strengths
Dr. Sally Shaywitz author of the book, "Overcoming Dyslexia", emphasizes that individuals with Dyslexia are VERY intelligent individuals who struggle to read. Dr. Shaywitz developed the Sea of Strengths model of Dyslexia demonstrating despite difficulty decoding, there is a sea of strengths surrounding the difficulty.
